This report describes the state of the sea freight sector in the UK and internationally. It considers:

  • the bulk flows of goods (freight flows) according to their value and volume
  • trends that will impact maritime trade in the future
  • the impacts of innovations such as smart shipping
  • the implications for the UK to 2050

It was commissioned as part of the Foresight Future of the sea project.
