This report reviews the available evidence concerning the effects of public sector procurement on the UK manufacturing sector. It examines the following questions:

  1. What is the current framework for government procurement in the UK?
  2. How does government procurement directly and indirectly effect manufacturing activities?
  3. How do UK procurement frameworks compare to other competitor nation procurement in terms of supporting manufacturing?
  4. In what ways could co-ordinated procurement encouage and support UK manufacturing?

This review was commissioned as part of the foresight project on the future of manufacturing in the UK.
