This report analyses the comparative economic performance of the UK’s main cities from 1981 to 2011 to determine how growth patterns have differed across cities. It looks at:
- city size
- economic structure and degrees of specialisation
- productivity
The accompanying report builds on the earlier paper and examines why the economic performance of UK cities has diverged in recent decades.
These papers were commissioned as part of the Foresight future of cities project.
