Friel Construction Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a licence to abstract water from Holme Pierrepont Sand and Gravel secondary aquifer A underlain by Mercia mudstone secondary B aquifer near Branston Water Park, Branston, Burton-on-Trent at National Grid Reference (NGR) SK 21747 21069 to transfer it to an unnamed drain at NGR SK 21793 21057 without intervening use.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 360 cubic metres an hour
  • 8,640 cubic metres a day
  • 241,920 cubic metres a year
  • At a rate not exceeding 100 litres per second.
  • between 1 March and 30 September inclusive in each year.

The transfer is for dewatering the site to allow remedial construction work to be undertaken. Abstraction will cease once construction work is completed.
