[redacted]

Dear [redacted],

FSR-FOI-0008

Thank you for your letter of 19 April 2023, in which you ask for a copy of the report into the case of [redacted], which had been referred to the Metropolitan Police Service Serious crime review group and the Forensic Science Regulator, in December 2022.

Your request has been handled as a request for information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

We have carried out a thorough search and we have established that the Forensic Science Regulator does not hold the information which you have requested.

The Regulator was copied into the letter from Inside Justice of 30th October 2022 and understands that an internal review is being conducted by the Metropolitan Police Service into this case, but this has not yet been completed. The Regulator has asked for sight of this review when it is complete so that an assessment can be made as to whether any regulatory action is required in line with the provisions of the Forensic Science Regulator Act 2021. The Regulator has not received a copy of the report of the review so in respect of your Freedom of Information request we do not hold the information you require.

If you are dissatisfied with this response, you may request an independent internal review of our handling of your request by submitting a complaint within two months to FSRFOI@forensicscienceregulator.gov.uk, quoting reference FSR-FOI-0008. If you ask for an internal review, it would be helpful if you could say why you are dissatisfied with the response.

As part of any internal review the Department’s handling of your information request would be reassessed by staff who were not involved in providing you with this response. If you were to remain dissatisfied after an internal review, you would have a right of complaint to the Information Commissioner as established by section 50 of the FOIA (Freedom of Information Act).

Yours sincerely
