Details

The research evaluates whether there is a need to regulate the smoke toxicity of building components and materials and explores how such regulation could be implemented.

The researchers considered the impact and necessity of regulation, its potential integration into existing fire safety frameworks, and the suitability of testing methodologies to support product regulation.

Background

The government commissioned the research as part of the technical review of Approved Document B (fire safety).

OFR Consultants, University of Edinburgh, University College London and Efectis carried out the work, and the findings and recommendations do not represent government policy.
