EA executive directors and board expenses 2017 to 2018

Updated 19 March 2024

The Environment Agency delivers flood risk management, environmental regulation and other environmental services across England. The majority of staff are based in local offices close to where they provide services. Our main National Office is in Bristol, with a further office in London.

The nature of the work of the Chair, Chief Executive and Executive Directors requires a significant degree of travel in England, with early starts and late finishes necessitating overnight stays. So that the Environment Agency can remain effectively networked with the European Commission and environmental regulators in other countries, some foreign travel is required.

To minimise carbon emissions, travel in the UK is mostly undertaken using public transport, with best value delivered both for travel and for hotel accommodation through the Environment Agency and cross-Government procurement contracts.

The expenditure shown is (where relevant) inclusive of VAT paid. The Environment Agency is able to recover VAT payments from Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs so the actual costs are less than the stated amounts.
