1. Information: early years national funding formula: technical note

On 11 August 2016 the Department for Education (DfE) launched a consultation on an early years national funding formula and changes to the way the 3- and 4-year-old free entitlements to childcare are funded.

DfE has now published a supporting technical note on the consultation website. The note accompanies 2 spreadsheet files of illustrative local authority funding allocations and explains the detailed methodology for the early years national funding formula used to generate the figures.

DfE would like to encourage schools, childcare providers and local authority early years teams to respond to the consultation. The closing date for the consultation is 22 September 2016.

2. Information: funding guidance for young people aged 16 to 19 in 2016 to 2017

We’ve published the funding guidance for young people aged 16 to 19 for the 2016 to 2017 academic year.

This includes updated funding regulations to reflect recently published sub-contracting guidance. We’ve also updated annex E with some new additional advice where schools or academies close sixth-form provision.

3. Information: apprenticeship funding in England from May 2017

We’ve published further information on how apprenticeships will be funded in England following the introduction of the apprenticeship levy in April 2017. This includes:

  • proposals for apprenticeship funding in England from May 2017
  • proposals for a new register of apprenticeship training providers
  • guidance for employers thinking about becoming an apprenticeship training provider
  • updated guidance on the apprenticeship levy and how it will work
  • an apprenticeship funding calculator

DfE and SFA encourage all institutions and employers with an interest in apprenticeships to provide feedback on the proposals by completing the online survey by 5 September 2016.
