This summary of changes applies to the Education inspection framework 2019.
July 2023 (for September 2023 version)
New paragraphs added to outline the expectations for conduct during inspections.
Removed ‘peer-on-peer’ reference and replaced it with ‘learner-on-learner’.
New section added on evaluating safeguarding culture.
July 2022
Added a new section under ‘Further education and skills provision’ about enhanced full inspections that we will carry out from September 2022. We will carry these out in FE colleges, sixth-form colleges and designated institutions, and there will be an additional sub-judgement on the contribution that the college is making to skills needs.
April 2021
We have made 2 minor amends to the framework. The first sets out a new expectation that inspectors will agree safety protocols to ensure the inspection is completed in a COVID-secure way. The second highlights that inspection remit handbooks have been updated to reflect the COVID-19 context that education providers are operating in and the disruption the pandemic has caused to them.
