Transforming lives

This is an outstanding opportunity to join the Government Economic Service and use your skills and knowledge as a professional economist to improve the lives of millions, working to formulate, implement, and evaluate government policy across a range of areas.

High profile

Wherever you join the GES, you’ll be delivering rigorous economic analysis to advise ministers and senior officials, ensuring that policy is informed by the strongest possible analytical underpinnings. Strengthening the evidence base and evaluating the costs and benefits of different policy options will also likely form part of your remit.

The person

Ready for far-reaching influence, you will have a proven track record as a professional economist supported by a 2:1 degree and/or MSc in economics. It’s possible you’re currently working in the third sector or an Arms Length Body (ALB), a consultancy, or a research organisation so you’ll have some expertise in the areas we work in.

You’ll have strong project management skills with a flair for analysing a large amount of data. You’ll be confident in making effective decisions, and developing and managing others to realise their potential whatever their background or aspiration.

You will have a sound understanding of economic theory and your talent for communicating your findings to a wide range of audiences, including very senior stakeholders, through briefings and advice will make you stand out.

A great package

We want our people to have a good work life balance so we offer a family-friendly environment, flexible working, a commitment to continuous learning and development and an attractive pension scheme. Civil Service nationality rules allow us to accept only applications from UK nationals, Commonwealth citizens or European Economic Area.

The Civil Service is an Equal Opportunities employer and aims to reflect the diversity of British society. All applications are treated on merit.
