Lower Derwent Valley
The Lower Derwent Valley National Nature Reserve is made up of a series of flood meadows, pastures and woodlands. The reserve supports a rich diversity of plant species and outstanding populations of breeding and wintering birds. In light of this, the reserve has been declared a Special Protection Area and a Ramsar site.
Main habitats: lowland grassland
Management: parts of the Lower Derwent reserve are managed by the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and the Carstairs Countryside Trust.

Spurn
The Spurn National Nature Reserve is a sand peninsula stretching 5.5 kilometres into the mouth of the Humber Estuary. Rich in wildlife - particularly birds - it’s a mix of beach and dunes, grassland, salt marsh and scrub and aquatic environments
Main habitats: woodland, lower grassland
Management: Yorkshire Wildlife Trust
