Early Childhood Development (ECD) interventions in developing country contexts can be effective for promoting gains in language, thinking and understanding. The primary motivations for this review are to determine: effective and easily scaled interventions, the best ways to promote community involvement, characteristics of effective change agents, and conceptual models to best explain the process of cognitive development. These are explored through a rigorous and objective review of the evidence.
