Details

The research was carried out by Cambridge Econometrics on behalf of the Department for International Trade (DIT).

This project uses linked firm-level data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) to analyse the characteristics of firms engaging in e-commerce exports in the UK.

It follows the recommendations of the previous report on digital trade by DIT and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS): understanding and measuring cross-border digital trade.

It also follows recommendations from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) to apply innovative methods to improve the evidence on cross-border digital trade.

The estimates include breakdowns by:

  • turnover
  • size of business
  • industry
  • types of service
  • export destination

The analysis covers the years 2010 to 2019.

Estimates for all charts and tables presented in the report are available in the ‘data tables and charts’ attachment.

This was published originally by Department for International Trade (DIT) which has since moved to the Department for Business and Trade (DBT).
