This accounting officer system statement sets out the accountability and governance arrangements within the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT).
It explains where accountability sits across the department, including:
- how spending, resources and outcomes are managed within the core department
- relationships with arm’s length bodies (ALBs)
- local funding arrangements, including Devolved Government Higher Education Research Capital (DG HERC)
- how grants are awarded and overseen
- major contracts and outsourced services
- investments, joint ventures and other assets
The statement reflects the department’s structure at the date of publication, including machinery of government changes that took place during 2025 to 2026. It will remain in effect until a revised version is published.
