On 27 January 2022, Ofcom, the ICO and the FCA held a roundtable on end-to-end encryption (E2EE), bringing together voices from the digital technology industry, academia, civil society and the legal profession to help guide future joint work by regulators. The objectives were to understand:
- the benefits and risks of E2EE for online services and their users; and
- its implications for digital regulation.
This report provides a summary of the views expressed by stakeholders and the next steps for joint work on E2EE to be taken forward by the ICO and Ofcom.
