Applies to England

Dorket Head is a landfill site in Arnold, Nottnghamshire. The operators, FCC Environment, stopped accepting landfill waste on Friday 12 September 2014. Now only soils and restoration materials will be brought on to site to complete the capping and restoration works planned in 2015-16.

Latest news

FCC have completed the capping works on site. FCC have permanently capped an area of 22,000 m2 on Cells 5, 6 and 7 at the south end of the site closest to residents. These works included replacing 8,500 m2 of plastic liner, laying 22,000 m2 of protective textiles on the plastic before finally placing 1 m of soil on to the flanks of the cells. A new surface water drain was also installed on the southeast corner of the site. The slopes will be seeded to prevent erosion. The Environment Agency visited the site 4 times during the construction to assess the works and ensure FCC were operating to the agreed plan.

Now that the works have been completed, residents should not experience any further odours from the site.

Further capping will be undertaken on landfill cells on the northern end of the site in 2016. We will update residents prior to the commencement of these works.

Although the site has ceased to accept waste, FCC will still be responsible for managing the site’s environmental impact. The Environment Agency will continue to regulate the landfill.
