Informing the Integrated National Transport Strategy: People's Panels privacy notice

The Department for Transport (DfT) will run online People’s Panels to gather the views of different groups of people to inform the development of an Integrated National Transport Strategy (INTS). This strategy will set the long-term vision for how transport should be designed, built and operated in England.

The processing of personal data, and what it entails, is necessary for our functions as a government department. 

The data controller is DfT.

Data we collect and how we use it

We will process the following personal data:

  • your name(s)
  • your email address
  • your accessibility requirements (optional)
  • your gender
  • your ethnicity
  • your age
  • information relating to disabilities or long-standing health conditions
  • the region you live in and whether you live in an urban or rural area
  • information relating to your household, including income and household makeup
  • information relating to your religious beliefs

Personal data is required to ensure the successful facilitation of the session.

We will also process demographic data to allow consideration of the needs of different demographic groups to help eliminate discrimination, advance equality of opportunity and foster good relations between people with different backgrounds.

Our lawful basis for collecting your data

Under data protection law, the lawful basis for processing your data is set out below.

Public task

Article 6(1)(e).

This process of data is necessary for the performance of a task that is carried out in the public interest or the exercise of official authority vested in the controller.

As we will also process your special category data, a further section of the UK GDPR applies to the below.

How long DfT retains data

Your personal data will be kept securely by DfT and anonymised/securely destroyed within 6 months of DfT receiving it.
