Details

This guidance on ethics for research, evaluation and monitoring activities was published in 2019 to replace the earlier DFID ethics principles and standards issued in 2011.

The guidance includes ethics principles and standards that should underpin and guide research evaluation and monitoring activities related to ODA-funded programming.

The guidance is structured around the 4 stages of the project cycle to prompt consideration of ethical issues throughout the process:

  • stage 1: Commissioning, planning and design
  • stage 2: Data collection and analysis
  • stage 3: Reporting, dissemination and use of evidence
  • stage 4: Monitoring, follow up and data use

The guidance is available as .pdf file and in an interactive format.
