Social Work England: Chair

Andrew McCulloch’s appointment as interim Chair of the Board for Social Work England has been extended for 3 months from 1 March 2024. 

Remuneration is £450 per day for a time commitment of up to 25 days for the period of the extension.

Andrew has declared the following interest. He is the chair of the General Medical Council Services International (GMCSI) Ltd which in the past has done business with Social Work England, however there is no current financial relationship.

Child Safeguarding Practice Review Panel: panel members

Alison Steele and Ian Critchley have been appointed to serve on the Child Safeguarding Practice Review Panel. They will serve from 30 January 2024 for a period of 4 years.

Remuneration is £400 a day for an estimated time commitment of up to 10 days a month.

Engineering Construction Industry Training Board: board members

Andrew Colquhoun, Helen Higgs, Mark Fotheringham, Mark Riley, Paul de Leeuw and Richard Law have been appointed to serve on the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB) from 29 November 2023 for a period of 4 years.

The roles are unremunerated. The estimated time commitment is 12 days a year.

Helen Higgs has declared the following interests: she is co-chair of the Nuclear Strategy Group and she is currently also on the Board of the Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP).

Ofqual: interim Chief Regulator

Sir Ian Bauckham CBE has been appointed by exception to serve as interim Chief Regulator of the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual). He will serve from 1 January 2024 for a period of one year. This exceptional appointment has been made following Dr Jo Saxton’s resignation from the role.

Remuneration is £135,000 for 0.9 full time equivalent plus a £30,000 non-pensionable expenses package per annum.

Ofqual: interim Chair

Frances Wadsworth CBE has been appointed by exception to serve as interim Chair of the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual). She will serve from 1 January 2024 for a period of up to one year. This exceptional appointment has been made following Ian Bauckham accepting the role of interim Chief Regulator.

Remuneration is £55,000 a year for two days a week.

Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfATE): board members

Ofsted: His Majesty’s Chief Inspector

Sir Martyn Oliver has been appointed to serve as His Majesty’s Chief Inspector for Education, Children’s Services and Skills. He will serve from 1 January 2024 for a period of 5 years.

Remuneration is £165,000 per annum for an estimated time commitment of 37 hours per week.

Office for Students: board members

The Secretary of State for Education has reappointed Verity Hancock and Simon Levine to the board of the Office for Students (OfS) as non-executive directors for 3 years.

Verity’s second term will end on 31 December 2027 and Simon’s third term will end on 31 December 2026.

Remuneration is £9,180 per annum for an estimated time commitment of 20 days.

These appointments have been made under Schedule 1, paragraph 2(1)(d) of the Higher Education and Research Act 2017, which permits the appointment of up to 12 non-executive OfS board members.
