Actions for local authorities include:

  • leading by example through council fleet electrification and procurement
  • encouraging the uptake of zero emission vehicles, low carbon fuels and efficiency measures by fleets
  • considering the charging and refuelling infrastructure needs of freight operators
  • ensuring policies support an efficient freight supply chain
  • implementing last mile consolidation hubs and related initiatives for new developments
  • increasing the efficiency of deliveries through retiming, dynamic kerb side management, pick-up and drop-off points (PUDOs) and business waste consolidation
  • encouraging multi-modal freight operations
  • considering the potential of road user charging to assist with decarbonisation objectives
