Crematoria: process guidance note

Local authority regulators must use this statutory process guidance note 5/2 (25) to assess applications and write permits for crematoria.

     From 4 December 2029, existing cremators must comply with the emission limit values for new cremators.

  2. 3 June 2026

     In the attachment 'Crematoria: emissions limits, monitoring and other provisions', we have updated the section 'Continuous emission monitoring'.

  3. 16 February 2026

     Fixed typos in the attachment 'Crematoria: emissions limits, monitoring and other provisions' under sections 'Visible and odorous emissions' and 'Carbon monoxide targets'. In the attachment 'Crematoria technical guidance: Who it’s for and how to use it' under the heading 'Burden sharing arrangement' the final report deadline years have been updated.
