Alternative provision: vision and reform

Setting out the government’s vision for alternative provision (AP) and outlining reforms to raise standards and improve outcomes for all children in AP.

This sets out how government will transform alternative provision to make sure these education settings provide high-quality teaching and an education that meets the individual needs of all children, regardless of their circumstances.

This includes:

  • government’s vision for reforming AP
  • building a strong foundation for reform
  • developing and sharing best practice within and beyond AP
  • strengthening partnership arrangements for commissioning and delivering AP timeline for reform

AP settings are places that provide education for children who can’t go to a mainstream school.
