In 2021 HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) commissioned IFF Research to conduct quantitative research to gain a greater understanding of the prevalence of different types of employment contract within the working population of the UK.
As well as establishing the prevalence of different types of employment contract, the research was also concerned with the nature of the work being carried out by those considered to be engaged in these more flexible employment arrangements.
The research consisted of a representative survey of the working population in the UK, in which 4,000 interviews were conducted via CATI (Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing) approach. Fieldwork took place from 12 August to 20 September 2021.
