The SSRO has published an update to its compliance and review methodology (the methodology). The updated methodology continues to promote timely reports and good quality data, while recognising the role of compliance reviews in informing the SSRO’s understanding of how the regulatory framework is being applied.
The previous methodology was published in 2017 and the update takes into account developments in the SSRO’s approach since that time. Key changes in the revised methodology include:
- better recognition of the respective roles of industry, the MOD and the SSRO, and the improvements to data quality that can be achieved through working in partnership;
- building on the additional and improved validation functionality within DefCARS alongside a risk based and proportionate approach to targeted reviews; and
- greater clarity on how the use of compliance review findings informs the SSRO’s development of DefCARS, statutory guidance, the review of legislation and analysis.
The methodology makes best use of current resources and aims to avoid duplication with the work of the MOD or unnecessary burden on industry.
