Virtual meeting

The Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Finance, Shona Robison MSP (Scottish Government) chaired a virtual meeting of the Finance: Interministerial Standing Committee (F:ISC) on 14 March. The meeting was attended by the Rt Hon Laura Trott MBE MP, Chief Secretary to the Treasury (UK government), Rebecca Evans MS, Minister for Finance and Local Government (Welsh Government) and Dr Caoimhe Archibald, Minister of Finance (Northern Ireland Executive).

This represented the first time that F:ISC had met since the return of the devolved institutions in Northern Ireland and the ministers welcomed Dr Archibald to her first meeting.

All ministers appreciated the opportunity to discuss the current economic context and public spending pressures, whilst continuing to build constructive and positive relationships across all governments.

The focus of the meeting was on the UK Spring Budget, which took place on 6 March.  Ministers discussed the implications of the Chancellor’s announcements on devolved government budgets. Ministers considered the outlook for public spending and noted that they were entering the final year of the current multi-year settlement, with the next UK Government Spending Review to take place after the general election.
