Teams
The meeting was attended by teams from across the CMA including Mergers, Markets and Strategy, Comms and Advocacy.
1. Introduction
The Chair welcomed members to the meeting.[footnote 3] The Board noted that Frank Dangeard has stepped down from the Board due to ill health, and wished him well with his recovery.
Minutes
The Board approved the minutes from the meeting of the Board on 19 March 25, with no changes.
2. Chair’s reflections
The Chair reflected on the upcoming meeting.
Strategy, risk and portfolio
3. CEO update
The Board was updated on and discussed recent developments in the CMA’s portfolio and risk profile. It also reviewed the external guidance tracker and the monthly finance update.
4. Board reflections
The Board reflected on the CMA’s work and the external environment in recent months, in preparation for the development of our new multi-year strategy later this year.
5. Update on mergers and the 4Ps
The Board discussed the work to deliver the 4Ps in our mergers work.
6. Competition Enforcement – delivering the 4Ps
The Board was updated on work to apply the 4Ps as part of the Competition Enforcement regime.
7. Industrial Strategy Work Programme
Within the context of the government’s draft strategic steer to the CMA, the Board considered the CMA’s work to support the government’s industrial strategy, including the provision to government of research and advice on key policy issues.
AOB
- updates to Board Authorisation document and Routine Review of Committees’ Terms of Reference
The Board approved a small number of proposed amendments to the CMA’s Board Authorisations and various Board Committee Terms of Reference (ToR): Executive Committee, Case and Policy Committee, Audit and Risk Assurance Committee, Nominations Committee, and Subsidy Advice Unit. These changes reflect the new consumer enforcement regime and a routine review of these ToRs.
- Subsidy Advice Unit (SAU) portfolio update
The Board was updated on the activities of the SAU along with an analysis of upcoming priorities, developments and risks.
