Freedom of Information Act: Request for information on Groceries Code Adjudicator activities

Thank you for your email dated 26 April 2023 regarding cloud infrastructure at the Groceries Code Adjudicator (GCA). In your email you asked for the following information:

  1. The duration of time utilising cloud infrastructure.
  2. The criteria used to choose a cloud provider.
  3. The percentage of infrastructures employing cloud services.
  4. The supplier of cloud infrastructures used. (AWS/Oracle/Azure etc.)
  5. Case studies highlighting the successful implementation of the ‘Cloud-first’ strategy.
  6. The uptime of the cloud infrastructure.
  7. The annual budget over the last five years for IT-managed services.
  8. Please provide the percentage spent on cloud-managed services.

Duty to confirm or deny whether the GCA holds the information

Under section 1(1) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, anyone making a request for information to the GCA, as a public authority, is entitled to be informed in writing whether it holds that information, and if so, to be supplied with it.

 I can confirm that the IT services are provided to the GCA by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS). Accordingly, responses to your questions are as follows (numbered to match the numbering in the request above):

Questions 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, and 8: The GCA does not hold this information. IT services are supplied to the GCA by BEIS.

Question 4: IT services are supplied to the GCA by BEIS.

Question 7: IT services are supplied to the GCA by BEIS. The GCA spent £98,845 between financial years 2017/18 to 2021/22.
