Civil Service Neurodiversity Network

Updated 21 May 2026

Who we are

The Civil Service Neurodiversity Network (CSNN) is a cross-government staff network that brings together neurodivergent colleagues and allies from across the Civil Service.

How we fit into the wider network landscape

We know there are many condition-specific networks and departmental neurodiversity groups across government. The CSNN complements this by providing cross-government coordination, strategic leadership, and a central point for sharing best practice. We work collaboratively with departmental networks rather than replacing them, helping to join up efforts and amplify impact across the Civil Service.

The CSNN is a sub-network of the Civil Service Disability Network (CSDN) and is open to all civil servants and agency staff. Our SCS Champion is Rosemary Pratt - Director, Export Control and Sanctions, Department for Business and Trade.

The CSNN is led by Andrea Michaels, CSNN Chair, working in collaboration with Cabinet Office NeuroNet, which is chaired by Jade Ridout. Both networks work together to support neuroinclusion across the Civil Service.

We represent a wide range of neurodivergent conditions, including but not limited to ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dyspraxia, Tourette’s, acquired neurodivergence such as brain injury, and co-occurring conditions such as anxiety, OCD, and other mental health conditions.

Who we are for

We are here for everyone. Whether you are neurodivergent (diagnosed or not), the parent of neurodivergent children, or just looking to be more informed as a colleague, line manager or ally.

Our purpose is simple but powerful

To build a Civil Service where neurodivergent people are understood, valued, and supported to thrive.

We do this by

  • Providing a safe and supportive space for staff
  • Raising awareness and reducing stigma
  • Sharing lived experiences to inform better policy and practice
  • Championing inclusive leadership, equipping line managers to confidently support neurodivergent staff - through workplace adjustments, more informed decisions, and a culture of understanding.

CSNN - Support in Action

  • Monthly ADHD & Autism support group, open to colleagues across government
  • A growing cohort of Mental Health First Aiders supporting neuroinclusive wellbeing
  • Peer advocacy and early intervention support for neurodivergent staff and line managers
  • Delivery of ‘Supporting Neurodiversity in the Workplace’ and ‘Navigating Workplace Adjustments for Neurodivergent Staff’ training sessions across departments.

Our Current Focus & Future Plans

Earlier this year we re-launched the network with a refreshed mission and a new working group structure. We’re building our capacity progressively - not all activities will happen at once, and some priorities are on a longer timeline as we grow our volunteer base and resources.

  • Our current focus is on five key priority areas- each led by a dedicated sub-group:
    • Awareness & Education- improving understanding and shift culture across departments
    • Communications & Collaboration- join up the dots across networks and share best practice
    • Advocacy & Leadership- engage senior leaders and SCS champions to build visible allyship, and create the conditions for systemic, long term cultural change.
    • Data & Analytics- Collect and use data to understand what works, measure progress, and inform action.
    • Policy & Standardisation- Inform and influence policy to embed consistent, scalable neuroinclusive practice across the Civil Service.

Reasons To Get Involved

  • You bring unique value- Whether you’re neurodivergent, an ally, a manager, or simply curious- you are welcome.
