On 8 May 2025, the Minister for Local Government and English Devolution, Jim McMahon OBE MP, announced in written ministerial statement the issuing of a non-statutory Best Value Notice to Cheshire East Council.

On 15 July 2026, the Minister for Local Government and Homelessness, Alison McGovern MP, announced in a written ministerial statement that a revised Best Value Notice was being issued to Cheshire East Council, to be reviewed after 6 months.

Best Value Notices are a formal notification that the department has concerns regarding an authority and request that the authority provides the department with assurance of improvement.
