New rules for changing driving tests

Accepted Answer

From 9 June 2026, each time you change your driving test, you will be able to either:

stay at the same test centre
move to one of the 3 nearest test centres at that time
move to the test centre you first booked at

From 9 June 2026, the service to change your driving test appointment will show all your available options.

This rule only applies to car driving tests. You will still be able to move other types of tests to any driving test centre in Great Britain.

The centres are the nearest by driving distance, avoiding motorways. The list shows driving distances between test centres. All distances are approximate and may vary from real journeys depending on things like temporary diversions or road closures. The distances have been calculated using Google Maps.

Where distances between centres are the same, the quickest route has been used.

The 3 nearest test centres may change as the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) improves the list.
