Niğde G4-Bor-1 Solar Power Plant Project, Türkiye
2. Description of project
Smart Güneş Enerjisi Teknolojileri Ar-Ge Üretim San ve Tic A.Ş. (Smart Solar) is building a solar project which will have the capacity to generate approximately 128-Megawatt peak and covers approximately 201.3 hectares (the ‘Project’). The Project will transmit the generated solar energy via a 154-kilovolt transmission line stretching 29.5 kilometres (km) to the Yaysun Substation. The equipment being installed at the Project Site includes, all approximate, 250,000 photovoltaic solar panels, 28 inverters, panel support systems, 180 km of cables, connectors, a substation and switchyard, transformer, fencing, lighting, and camera systems, among other elements. The Project is aimed at increasing the share of renewable energy resources and resource diversity in total electricity generation in Türkiye. The Project is owned and will be operated by Smart GES Enerji Üretim A.S. (special purpose company, 100% owned by Smart Solar).

4. Source of environmental information
An Environmental and Social Impact Assessment Report has been developed for the Project along with a Non-Technical Summary (NTS) (both in English). After the ESIA report was finalised, in August 2024, the following documents were developed by Smart Solar to supplement the ESIA and align with international standards: Supplementary E&S Assessment, Climate Change Risk Assessment, Cumulative Impacts assessment, Human Rights Impact Assessment, NTS, Stakeholder Engagement Plan and the Grievance Mechanism.
