Category A project under consideration: Changfang and Xidao Offshore Windfarm
Published 20 November 2019
1. Name of project
Changfang and Xidao Offshore Windfarm
2. Description of project
The project involves the development of the Changfang and Xidao Offshore Windfarm.
The project is comprised of 2 adjacent offshore sites, Changfang and Xidao, but is being developed as a single wind farm that will be constructed in 2 phases.
The windfarm will consist of 62 wind turbine generators (WTGs), together with associated jacket WTG foundations. The WTGs will be connected via 66 kV submarine cables which will then be extended to shore to a newly built onshore substation. The windfarm will have a capacity of 600 MW.
3. Location of project
Taiwan Strait, approximately 11–25km west of Changhua County, Taiwan
4. Source of environmental information
Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) have been developed for the project.
Since the approval of the EIA reports, the design of the wind farm has undergone 2 major amendments. Both required DA (Differential Analysis) and approval for these amendments has subsequently been obtained from the Environmental Protection Administration of Taiwan.
The EIAs and DAs for the project can be accessed at the following weblinks:
4.1 Changfang
4.2 Xidao
Additional environmental and social impact information for the project can be accessed via the listed contact.
Note: A Non-Technical summary of the EIAs has also been developed in English.
