We received a request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 for the following: 

Communications that appeared to be part of a coordinated campaign received by the Home Office and its agencies between 1 May 2010 and 1 May 2011.

We released the following information on 23 May 2011.

 Home Office HQ

1. The total number of campaign letters, postcards and emails that appeared to be part of a coordinated campaign you received from 1st May 2010 to 1st May 2011.

We received a total of 8,402 items of campaign post in that period.

2. The breakdown of these numbers by delivery method (letter, postcard and email).

7789 emails and 613 postcards were received.

3. A breakdown by topic and organisation(s) where you received more that 500 items of correspondence (through any delivery method) that appeared to be part of a coordinated campaign in the period defined above.

In the 500+ category, we have received 805 cases protesting about a loophole in the law allowing for importation of juvenile primates, and 552 cases protesting about the appointment of Dr Hans Christian Raabe to the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs. Both these campaigns were hosted on the change.org website.

The total was 253 items.

66 letters and 187 post cards were received.

No organisation sent more than 500 items of correspondence.
