Evidence base review investigating business travel behaviour in particular:

  • how we can define business travel
  • the factors which determine business travel behaviour

Understanding the travel behaviour of businesses and organisations is core to the Department for Transport (DfT) and its work. Over recent years DfT has expanded its understanding of individual’s travel choices, but there is currently a lack of evidence on business travel.

Interviews were conducted with transport orientated groups to:

  • fill gaps in published evidence
  • help understand the role of organisations, such as intermediaries, in the relationship between employers and government
