The Department for Communities and Local Government recently invited applications from organisations wishing to operate new or extended building regulation competent person self-certification schemes or air tightness testing schemes. The deadline for applications was 10 December. The department received 8 applications, the names of the applicants and the types of work they applied for is in the document ‘2014 Applicants List’.
The invitation was limited to the types of work listed in Schedule 3 of the Building Regulations 2010 (as amended) or air tightness testing under regulation 43 of the Regulations.
For applicants also working on the Green Deal, energy company obligation (ECO) or microgeneration certification scheme (MCS) you may wish to note that in some cases there is not an exact equivalence between Green Deal/MCS measures and the descriptions of types of work in Schedule 3. Applicants needed to demonstrate competence against the description in Schedule 3
Applicants needed to demonstrate competence against the description in Schedule 3 if they wished to be authorised as competent person scheme operators for any or all of the corresponding Green Deal/ energy company obligation/ microgeneration certification scheme energy measures. There were 3 application forms:
- for applicants for new competent person self-certification schemes
- for applicants for new air tightness testing schemes
- for existing self-certification schemes wanting to extend their scope to include other types of work that are listed in Schedule 3 to the Building Regulations 2010 (as amended)
Applications for operating new or extended competent person self-certification schemes will be assessed against the conditions of authorisation document issued in June 2012.
Applications for air tightness testing schemes will be assessed against the Building Regulations: Air tightness testing schemes - conditions of authorisation document, which was issued in May 2014 for this type of scheme.
