Published 21 January 2022

The Notice

Announcement of intention not to prepare an environmental statement: Regulation 5 of the Environmental Impact Assessment Land Drainage Improvement Works (Amended) Regulations 1999 SI 1999/1783.

The work

The Environment Agency gives notice that it proposes to carry out improvement works to the flood defences on the River Neet in Bude. This improvement work comprises reinstating the embankment to the south of the Crescent car park between National Grid Reference SS 20854 06142 to SS 20747 06109 (approximately 0.1 kilometres) to a minimum of a 2 metre crest width to restore the condition of the existing flood alleviation scheme asset.

Further work is also proposed comprising the construction of the Ergue-Gaberic Way flood wall. Planning permission will be sought for this work, and this work involves building a flood wall along Ergue-Gaberic Way between National Grid Reference SS 20805 06406 and SS 20890 06207 (approximately 0.2 kilometres) to restore the condition of the existing flood alleviation scheme asset. This flood wall will be constructed to the rear west side of the existing embankment and to the same height. This work will also include a stoplog at Nanny Moore’s Bridge (National Grid Reference SS 20804 06411).

The work is required to ensure the resilience of the defences and to ensure the assets will continue to provide the design level of protection.

Intention not to prepare an environmental statement

The Environment Agency considers the improvement work is not likely to have significant effects on the environment and does not intend to prepare an environmental statement in respect of it.
