We have a received a request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 for the following:
British passports are issued to the following persons:
(a) British citizens,
(b) British Overseas Territories citizens,
(c) British Overseas citizens,
(d) British Nationals (Overseas),
(e) British subjects, and
(f) British protected persons.
I would like to be provided with any information held by the Home Office which sets out whether each category from (a) to (f) above is considered to be:
(i) a form of citizenship,
(ii) a form of nationality, or
(iii) some other ‘status’ (in which case I would like to be provided with background information, an explanation or description of the legal basis for that status),
I also wish to be provided information held by the Home Office setting out the logic/rationale/reasoning for classifying persons in each class (a) to (f) into the respective category (i) to (iii).
