Details
The Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Bill aims to improve UK border security and strengthen the asylum and immigration system by creating a framework of new and enhanced powers and offences across the relevant government and law enforcement partners.
The Home Office has considered options within the bill to criminalise articles for use in serious crime.
The Regulatory Policy Committee (RPC) gave a ‘green’ rating to the options assessment on 10 December 2024. This means that we considered it to be fit for purpose based on our scrutiny of the evidence and analysis supporting the case for why regulation is necessary.
The RPC’s opinion refers to the evidence and analysis presented in the options assessment, not the policy itself.
Following issue of the RPC’s opinion, the government published the Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Bill impact assessment dated 30 January 2025.
Under the Better Regulation Framework, the department is not required to submit the impact assessment to the RPC for further independent scrutiny.
