Baslow Environment Projects Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a full licence to abstract water from River Derwent at Baslow Weir, Baslow, Derbyshire at National Grid Reference (NGR) SK 24965 72540.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 16,920 cubic metres an hour

  • 406,080 cubic metres a day

  • 89,175,168 cubic metres a year

  • between 1 April and 31 March inclusive in each year.

The water will be used for hydroelectric power generation.

All the abstracted water will be returned to the River Derwent downstream at NGR SK 24975 72520.

Further details are: The existing impoundment (Baslow Weir) will not be modified as part of the proposal. The proposal will create a channel around the west end of Baslow Weir where a 50 kilowatt output screw turbine will be located.
