1. Annex 1C smart tachograph seals
The European Commission has announced that 2 seal providers (Unisto and Royal Pack) have formally been approved for use with 1C Smart Tachograph calibrations.
These seals will now have the raised “T” Logo on them to identify as approved seals.
From 1 March 2022, no other seal, by any other manufacturer, can be used for 1C Tachograph calibrations.
You can continue to use your current stock of non-approved seals for 1C calibrations until the close of play on 28 February 2022.
There is no requirement to retrofit any current 1C calibrations with the new approved seals as they will be valid until the next calibration after 1 March 2022.
2. Continued use of non approved 1C seals
From 1 March 2022, only formally approved seals manufactured by Unisto and Royal Park can be used for 1C Smart Tachograph calibrations.
Approved Tachograph Centres can continue to use their stock of non-approved 1C seals on all Digital Tachograph (1B) and analogue tachograph calibrations after 1 March 2022 as the seals for these tachographs, are not covered by the new 1C legislation.
3. Training certificates
This is to remind training organisations and approved tachograph centres (ATCs) that copies of any new training certificates issued following recertification must be emailed to tachosection@dvsa.gov.uk.
4. Mandatory quality control (QC) checks
This is to remind all ATCs and quality controllers that the QC checks need to be done at 3 monthly and 6 monthly intervals.
DVSA are seeing increasing levels of noncompliance and need this to be addressed as a matter of urgency.
5. Fee renewals
DVSA have recently sent ATCs the fee renewal notice for 2022.
ATCs are reminded that fee renewals for the continued authority to calibrate tachographs must be paid by 31 January 2022.
Failure to meet this payment deadline will result in the ATCs approval to calibrate being suspended and the ATC will be removed from the tachograph calibration scheme.
