Approved tachograph centre special notice 01-21

Published 3 March 2021

Applies to England, Scotland and Wales

1. Annex 1C smart tachograph requirements

The UK government has agreed, through the free trade agreement, to formally adopt all annex 1C smart tachograph requirements into UK legislation.

This means that approved tachograph centres (ATCs) can continue to install and calibrate annex 1C smart tachographs as before.

ATCs are also authorised to install and calibrate annex 1C smart tachographs on other EU vehicles if required to do so.

2. New style approved initial calibration courses

Approval has been granted, with immediate effect, to 2 new style initial calibration courses available from both approved training organisations Encompass and Skillray.

Both courses are a mix of online learning elements and dedicated face to face practical sessions to confirm what has been learnt online.

Please contact either company for further details as required.

3. Mandatory CITO2 calibration software update requirement (free of charge)

A problem with the printing of calibration plaques has been identified with the CITO2 software.

To resolve this issue there is a mandatory free of charge software update to version 3.0.2 that must be done with immediate effect.

For further information please contact your supplier to obtain your update.

Failure to undertake the upgrade could lead to disciplinary action being taken against any approved tachograph centre that does not comply.

4. Tachograph continuation training update

The furloughing of many nominated technicians due to the COVID-19 pandemic has caused a problem with many nominated technicians unable to undertake the required continuation training to maintain their nominated technician status. As a result, their training validity has now expired.

It has been decided, in order not to increase the burden on the trade in these difficult times, that any nominated technicians whose training has recently lapsed has until 14 March 2021 to undertake the required continuation training to maintain their approved nominated technician status.

Failure to meet this new deadline will mean the nominated technician will have to undertake a full initial calibration training course to maintain their nominated technician status.

5. CITO2 and Webcal plaque change

Skillray have changed the authorised plaque for CITO2 and Webcal. The new plaque will display C2 in the holographic logo. We remind all centres to only use DVSA approved plaque for CITO2 and Webcal calibrations.

Please contact Skillray to arrange a free of charge exchange of the old style plaques with the new ones.
