Appraisal of the potential social, economic and environmental impacts of the proposed policy in the revised draft Airports National Policy Statement. It also recommends options for mitigating potential impacts.

This appraisal of sustainability builds on the February 2017:

The change logs summarise revisions made to the appraisal of sustainability since February 2017.

Topic based options assessments (appendix a) provide in-depth analysis of the potential direct and indirect effects. Individual appendices cover: community, quality of life, economy, noise, biodiversity, soils, water, air quality, carbon, resources and waste, historic environment, and landscape.

Appendices b, c and d outline information on the shortlisting of alternative schemes, scoping responses from statutory environmental bodies, and variations to scheme designs.

Under the Planning Act 2008 an appraisal of sustainability must accompany a national policy statement.
