Andorra: names
This section gives HM Passport Office operational staff information about names in Andorra.
Names in Andorra consist of:
- forename
- surname (father’s surname then mothers’ surname)
Andorra follows the Hispanic naming convention.
Change of name
Name changes are legal in Andorra.
Andorra: nationality
This section gives HM Passport Office operational staff information about nationality in Andorra.
Dual nationality is not allowed in Andorra.
A person has to renounce their current nationality if they want to acquire Andorra nationality.
Children who are born in Andorra with a right to hold more than one nationality do not fall into this category.
Andorra: legitimacy
This section gives HM Passport Office operational staff information about legitimacy in Andorra.
Legitimacy
Andorra does not recognise a difference between legitimate and illegitimate births. This means that all births are considered legitimate whether a child’s parents are married or not.

These documents are not laminated.
Birth certificates
Births must be registered within 15 days with the Civil Registry. Any mistakes on the certificate are recorded as marginal notes.
Marriage certificates
Only a civil marriage ceremony is legal in Andorra with a marriage certificate being issued. Religious marriage ceremonies and certificates are not considered legal and are not acceptable for HM Passport Office purposes.
Death certificates
Deaths must be declared to the Civil Registry Office within 24 hours.
Identity documents
Foreign national residents hold a residence card which is issued centrally.
