Details

The alcohol monitoring on licence (AML) scheme was launched in Wales in November 2021 and England in June 2022. AML requires people on probation to wear a remote alcohol monitoring device upon release from prison, where considered necessary and proportionate as a part of the formal licence planning process. The scheme is used for individuals where total abstinence from alcohol is required, or they must comply with requirements specified by their supervising officer to address their alcohol needs, including limiting alcohol use.

This report presents findings from a process and interim impact evaluation conducted between 2023 to 2025. The findings can be used to inform operational delivery of the scheme, prior to assessing longer term impacts.
