Details

The UK reviews its air pollution monitoring networks at least every 5 years, as required by the Air Quality Standards Regulations (2010).

The UK is split into 43 reporting zones and within the monitoring regime assessment report, each zone is assigned a ‘threshold assessment status’ based on the level of pollution and the number of people living within the zone.

The ‘compliance network status’ then assesses whether the UK’s air quality monitoring network meets the monitoring requirements of the Air Quality Standards Regulations (2010).

The reports are prepared by Ricardo AEA Ltd on behalf of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. The UK air quality zones assessment threshold status: 5-year review (2019 to 2023) report was originally published on the UK Air website in 2025.
