Details

Independent feasibility study carried out to provide government with sufficient information to develop, launch and manage a biofuels competition. This competition will lead to the establishment of advanced biofuel production facilities in the UK.

The aims of the competition are to:

  • help the UK in meeting its 2020 RED target
  • reduce greenhouse gas emissions from transport
  • increase manufacturing and economic activity in the UK
  • increase innovation and intellectual property development in the UK

The Department for Transport announced in August 2013 that it would make £25 million funding available for an advanced biofuel demonstration competition. This funding will help provide significant private sector investment in the development of these facilities in the UK.
