We have a received a request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 for the following: 

  1. The total amount paid to charities, advocacy groups and think-tanks aiming to improve the protection of the natural environment, reduce greenhouse gas emissions in order to limit climate change or otherwise address environmental issues in the financial year 2009-10.  This should include, but is not limited to, all of the groups listed in the Appendix to this request
  2. A breakdown of the amount given in answer to question 1) by recipient organisation

We released the following information on 27 September 2010: 

In 2009/10, the Home Office and its agencies paid for technical advice from Waterwise and Carbon Trust to help the department reduce its energy and water costs. A range of measures have now been implemented in consequence, which will contribute to the Home Office reducing its energy usage by 10% this year, in line with the Prime Minister’s commitment. 

The payments made to these bodies consisted of £11,750 for Waterwise and £43,933.13 for Carbon Trust.  Both of these amounts include VAT.
