Timothy Smart was appointed Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Republic of Madagascar in October 2012 and began his posting later that month. On his appointment Timothy said, “I am delighted and honoured to be appointed Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Republic of Madagascar. I will do my best to strengthen further our long lasting relations with the people of Madagascar and work with all sections in the country on their path towards a fully democratic government. I look forward to building our political, commercial and cultural ties with a view to helping build a safer, fairer and more prosperous future for both of our countries.”
Timothy joined the FCO in 1999 and has previously served in Israel, Iraq, the Solomon Islands and Fiji.

They are responsible for the direction and work of the Embassy and its Consulates, including political work, trade and investment, press and cultural relations, and visa and consular services.
