Susannah Goshko CMG
Biography
Susannah Goshko is a career Diplomatic Service officer who took up her role as Deputy Head of Mission at British Embassy Washington in October 2026.
Susannah has previously served as British Ambassador to Mexico (from 2024 to 2026) and prior to that as British High Commissioner to Canada (2021 to 2024).
She has significant experience working in London, including as Principal Private Secretary to the then Foreign Secretary and First Secretary of State from 2019 to 2021.
Throughout her career, Susannah has worked extensively on national security issues and has developed regional expertise in North America (including through two previous postings to Washington from 2004-2006 and 2013-2017).
Her other assignments have included the Department for Exiting the European Union (where she established the team responsible for leading work on the Withdrawal Agreement), Nairobi (where she served as the UK’s Permanent Representative to UNEP and UN Habitat) and Havana.
Deputy Head of Mission to the USA
The Deputy Head of Mission is a senior diplomat and a key advisor to His Majesty’s Ambassador. The Deputy Head of Mission leads the organisational operations of the Embassy, turning the Ambassador’s strategic vision and direction into tangible deliverables. They will represent the UK’s interests in the absence of the Ambassador as Chargé d’Affaires. The Deputy Head of Mission also engages with the US Administration, Congressional figures and leaders of business and industry.
