Senay Bulbul OBE MVO

Biography
Senay Bulbul has served as the Minister Counsellor Political at the British Embassy in Washington, DC since January 2026. In this role, she leads the United Kingdom’s political engagement with the United States, working closely with US government counterparts, Congress, allied embassies, and the wider policy community to advance UK interests across a broad range of foreign policy and international issues. Her responsibilities include political analysis, strategic reporting, and advising senior leadership on developments affecting the UK-US relationship and transatlantic cooperation.
Prior to taking up this position, Ms Bulbul served as Political Counsellor at British Embassy Washington from 2022. She has also held a number of senior roles at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office in London, including Private Secretary to the Foreign Secretary and Head of the Middle East Peace Process Team.
Earlier in her career, Ms Bulbul was posted to the UK Mission to the United Nations in New York, where she worked as Second Secretary covering Middle East issues. She also served as an economist in the UK Civil Service and in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, focusing on climate change and energy policy.
Ms Bulbul is an experienced diplomat with a strong track record of working in complex political environments and supporting senior decision-making. She is committed to multilateral cooperation, democratic values, and maintaining a close and enduring UK-US partnership.
She was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) and a Member of the Royal Victorian Order (MVO).
Minister Counsellor Political
The Minister Counsellor Political leads the UK government’s political engagement with the United States. They are responsible for the Embassy’s political strategy, analysis and reporting, advising senior leadership on developments affecting the UK-US relationship and wider international issues.
The Minister Counsellor engages with US Administration officials, Congress and the policy community, and ensures coherent political input across the US Network in support of UK priorities.
